AI in Your Practice: Helper or Headache?

The wellbeing space is in the middle of an identity crisis around artificial intelligence - and I get it, but where's the line between efficiency and losing the heart of your work?

Here's what I'm hearing from wellness practitioners lately: "Should I be using AI? Am I falling behind if I don't? But also... is it ethical?"

You're not alone in this. The wellbeing space is having a collective identity crisis around artificial intelligence right now.

The Wellbeing Landscape: AI & Ethics

According to a recent survey by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, 67% of therapists are curious about AI tools, but only 23% feel confident using them ethically in their practice.

The tension is real: AI can draft your newsletter, generate client intake forms, or help with session notes. But where's the line between efficiency and losing the human heart of what you do?

Here's my take:

AI is a brilliant admin assistant. It's not a replacement for your intuition, your training, or the sacred space you hold for clients. Use it for the tasks that drain you (hello, invoice reminders). Protect it from the work that is you.

Think of it as hiring a very keen intern who needs clear boundaries. They can organise your filing system, but they shouldn't be in the therapy room.

Where AI works well:

✓ Social media content ideas (not the final posts, but brainstorming prompts)

✓ Email templates for admin tasks (appointment confirmations, payment reminders)

✓ Organizing your workflow systems

✓ Formatting documents and checklists

✓ Transcription services (with proper consent and encryption)

Where AI should never go:

Client session notes – These contain deeply personal information and require your clinical judgment, not AI interpretation

Crisis responses – If a client emails in distress, your human response is non-negotiable

Clinical assessments or treatment planning – Your training and intuition can't be outsourced

Anything involving client data without explicit consent – GDPR isn't just a checklist; it's about trust ✗ Generating responses to sensitive client questions – Even if it's "just admin," if it touches client care, it needs your eyes and heart

The golden rule? If it involves direct client care, clinical decision-making, or sensitive personal information - keep AI out of it!

Your clients aren't paying for efficiency. They're paying for you. Your presence. Your training. Your ability to hold space that a computer never could.

Use AI to buy yourself back time for the work that actually matters. Not to replace the work itself.

The 3pm School Run Reality Check

Can I be honest? Last Tuesday, I was mid-flow writing template descriptions for the new library when my phone buzzed: "Mum, can you bring my PE kit? I forgot it."

And just like that, the business brain switched to mum brain. I ran to school, came back, stared at my laptop trying to remember where I was... and then it was time for the school pickup.

This is the reality of running Hunter & Co. Some days feel seamless. Other days, I'm answering client emails while stirring pasta and mentally cataloguing which child needs what for tomorrow.

But here's what I've learned: The business doesn't need me to be "always on." It needs me to be intentional.

That's why I'm so passionate about helping you simplify your admin. Because I know what it's like to feel pulled in seventeen directions. I know the mental load of trying to hold space for everyone - clients, kids, the business, yourself - all at once.

You deserve systems that work around your life, not against it.
