Hello and welcome back (or welcome if you’re new here).
This space exists for one reason: to challenge the way we’ve been taught to run businesses – especially in the well-being space.
Somewhere along the way, coping became normalised.
Coping with the admin. Coping with the mental load. Coping with systems that don’t quite fit.
But here’s my honest opinion: If your business constantly requires you to push through, override your needs, or carry everything in your head – it isn’t sustainable.
You’re not failing. Your business just needs better, calmer support.
The Hidden Cost of “Coping”
Here’s something I believe strongly: Coping is not a long-term strategy.
Yet so many business owners are praised for it.
You can manage. You do get things done. You are capable.
But the cost is often invisible.
It shows up as:
- A constant low-level tension in your body
- Decision fatigue before the day has really started
- Admin avoidance that gets mistaken for procrastination
- Evenings and weekends spent mentally “catching up”
When we normalise coping, we quietly normalise burnout.
A calm business isn’t about doing less because you don’t care. It’s about doing things differently because you understand your capacity matters.
What Calm Systems Actually Look Like
Calm systems are often misunderstood. They’re not rigid, over-engineered, or corporate.
They are intentional.
In my work, calm systems usually mean:
- Fewer tools, used more deliberately
- Clear homes for information so your brain can rest
- Predictable weekly rhythms instead of constant reacting
- Boundaries that protect energy and growth
The biggest shift? You stop running your business from your nervous system.
And that’s when clarity, confidence, and creativity start to return.
A Gentle Prompt for This Week
Rather than asking yourself what you need to fix, try this instead:
💭 What part of my business feels heavier than it should?
That question usually points to where systems, support, or simplification would have the biggest impact.
You don’t need to overhaul everything. You just need to start where the weight is.
How I Can Support You
At Hunter & Co, I support business owners (particularly in the well-being space) to redesign the behind-the-scenes of their business so it actually supports them.
That might look like:
- Building calm, capacity-aware systems
- Supporting with marketing
- Creating weekly admin rhythms that reduce overwhelm
- Or stepping in to take admin off your plate entirely
The goal is always the same: A business that feels steadier, clearer, and more supportive to run.
A gentle next step: If this edition resonated, you don’t need to act immediately. You can simply notice what felt true, save this for later, or reply with the word calm if you’d like me to share where support often helps most.
You don’t have to do business the hard way to do it well.
Take care of yourself this week, Gemma 🤍
PS - If the idea of a calmer, more supported way of running your business feels appealing, I’m quietly working on a few resources designed to help you reduce admin overwhelm without adding more to your plate. No pressure, no noise, just practical support, shared gently when it’s ready.
